A 94-YEAR-OLD man has taken delivery of a new Nissan Micra from Glyn Hopkin in Watford.
Richard Burgess ordered the supermini after passing his test to retain his driving licence for another three years.
It’s the sixth Micra he’s bought from the dealership on Lower High Street where he is believed to be the oldest customer on the books.
Collecting his new car, a delighted Mr Burgess said: “I have very fond memories of buying my different Micras from Glyn Hopkin over the years and I have always felt welcomed by the friendly team there.
“The Micra has always been good to me and at my age I am not at a point where I can be learning new tricks in different cars. I’ve always enjoyed my Nissan so I have not had the need to change it, although now I tend to choose silver as it doesn’t need cleaning very often.”
Mr Burgess bought his first car from the dealership at the age of 70 after visiting on the lookout for a comfortable and affordable run-around that would also enable him to get to his sister’s house in Wales at the weekends. He fell in love with the Nissan Micra, replacing it every three years since.
He estimates he has travelled over 100,000 miles in his Nissan Micras over the past 24 years, and it has given him the freedom and independence to visit family across the country. A lover of countryside walks, he finds the Micra the ideal way of reaching local walking spots.
Fraser Cohen, Managing Director at Glyn Hopkin said “We pride ourselves on our service and the longstanding relationships it builds with our customers. I’m overjoyed to hear Mr Burgess has such good memories with us.”
