SOMERSET-based Nissan dealer F J Chalke has handed over their first LEAF to a customer.
But the first customer was no ordinary punter – it was the founder of the Glastonbury festival.
Michael Eavis accepted the keys from the Nissan dealership at a special event held at the Haynes International Motor Museum.
A keen advocator of environmentally friendly technologies, Eavis has been looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the award winning Nissan LEAF, after the vehicle was unveiled at preview events in January at 26 specialist electric vehicle (EV) Nissan dealerships across the UK.
‘From the stage coach to the Model T Ford, another milestone in transport has now arrived with the Nissan LEAF,’ said Eavis.
Of his first journey in the Nissan LEAF Eavis remarked: ‘All electric and so quiet it’s a real joy to drive. Driving through the levels yesterday I could even hear the mating call of the bittern. Just two pounds to fill the tank from a 13 amp plug socket and that will take you 100 miles. I think we’re turning the corner on fossil fuels to a future of travel on carbon free energy.’
Steve Fowler, Dealer Principal at F J Chalke Nissan, said: ‘The LEAF further realises Nissan’s position as an innovative, futuristic, thoughtful car manufacturer and will be a great addition to the range we currently have on offer.
‘We are thrilled to have handed over our first Nissan LEAF to Michael and are excited to finally be able to offer access to this vehicle to all Somerset motorists.’
