ONE of the UK’s first eco villages has received its first deliveries of the Nissan LEAF courtesy of West Way Nissan Manchester.
Ashton Hayes Village in Cheshire, has a population of 1000, and is a Carbon Neutral Community Village.
Residents have committed to a low carbon lifestyle by adopting a variety of measures such as improved insulation, low energy light bulbs and light sensors, triple glazing, switching off appliances when not in use and careful energy use.
This is the second handover of the award winning LEAF for the Manchester-based dealership, which also handed the keys of a new LEAF to Vinci Fleet Services – a Widnes based fleet company in May.
Garry Charnock, Deputy Chair at Ashton Hayes Village Council, said: ‘Having been eagerly anticipating the delivery of our Nissan LEAF since placing the order in January, the whole community is really excited to receive the car today.
‘The village have wanted to own an electric vehicle to be used collectively since the community came together in 2006, so we were all thrilled when we heard of the Nissan LEAF as it will help take us a step closer to achieving our goal of becoming England’s first Carbon Neutral community.’
Richard Braithwaite, Dealer Principal at West Way Nissan Manchester, said: ‘The LEAF further realises Nissan’s position as an innovative, futuristic, thoughtful car manufacturer and will be a great addition to the range we currently have on offer.
‘We are thrilled to have handed over the keys to Ashton Hayes Village and are glad the Nissan LEAF will help achieve the community achieve its eco-friendly goal.’
