MANY choose a romantic, intimate destination for their honeymoon – but not Somerset mechanic Greg Miles.
The Master Technician, from F J Chalke Nissan in Saxon Way, Wincanton, will spend the time after his wedding with eight other men as he takes on a gruelling cycle challenge.
Within days of getting married to fiancée Samme-Jo Baker, the 28-year-old will be riding 500 miles across the south west in aid of Macmillan Cancer, Help for Heroes, and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
The ‘Wrong Way Back’ ride will see Greg and his team of fellow cyclists start and finish at Wincanton taking in Minehead, Land’s End, and Weymouth along the way.
Greg, 28, said: “My fiancée is fine about it. We decided not to go away after the wedding so when this came up it wasn’t a problem.
“I’m now gearing up for two big moments in my life – getting married and riding 500 miles – and they’re both happening so close together.”
It will take eight days to complete the cycling challenge, which will see the team climbing hills totalling 45,000ft – higher than Mt Everest.
The ride – taking place from July 18th – is the third of its kind, but is the first Greg has signed up for.
Each rider has to raise a minimum of £250, but with sponsorship from friends and work colleagues they are hoping to collect thousands for the charities.
Greg added: “My colleagues at F J Chalke Nissan are always generous so they have been digging deep into their pockets to help me raise as much money as possible.”
