PARALYMPIC swimmer Scott Quin has been presented with a stylish Nissan Pulsar as he steps up preparations for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The Midlothian-based swimmer picked up his new car from Nissan dealership Alex F Noble & Son based at Straiton by Loanhead.
The 26-year-old, who has Crouzon syndrome, has qualified to represent Great Britain in the SB14 100m Breaststroke event. He is currently ranked 2nd in the World as well as being the reigning European champion in the same category.
To reach the top in his sport, Scott’s training schedule is understandably tough.
One of the many challenges faced by his family is that he has to be driven everywhere by his mum, Eileen, due to his limited vision and learning difficulties.
Scott’s dad has been suffering heart failure and cannot currently drive.
A typical week sees Eileen driving Scott from his home in Loanhead to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for ten training sessions as well as his physio and nutritionist appointments and it’s hoped the provision of the new fuel efficient Nissan Pulsar will go some way in alleviating the travel costs involved in the weekly routine.
Scott, who this year, also won a ‘Sporting Hero Award’ from a Scottish daily newspaper said: “I’m delighted to have the support of Alex F Noble & Son in the run up to the Paralympic Games this year. This is a welcome boost for me and my family, as my mum drives me to all of my ten training sessions per week (half of which are early starts), with land training and appointments on top of that.
“I’m excited to be supported by Alex F Noble & Son as the Games approach in September”
David Noble, dealer principal at Alex F Noble and Son Nissan, said: “We were delighted to have been able to sponsor Scott through the provision of a Pulsar car.
“With both our Nissan dealership and Scott’s family based in Loanhead, there was an obvious local connection, however with Nissan itself being the Official Automotive Partner to both the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it gave us a great opportunity to underline the brand’s association with a major global event at grass roots level.”
The heats and final of the SB14 100m Breaststroke event in Rio take place on September 14th.
