A HULL primary school could soon be nurturing a future Olympic champion after winning a top of the range table tennis table from their local Nissan retailer.
St Andrews CoE Primary School in Grandale, Sutton Park, scooped the prize in competition organised by Trenton Nissan in Anlaby High Road.
The dealership had the table in its showroom to celebrate Nissan’s role as official automotive supplier to Team GB and ParalympicsGB at Rio 2016.
But rather than simply handing it back at the end of the Games, the dealership decided to offer it up to a deserving local school.
Hundreds of entries were received, with St Andrews chosen at random as the winner.
Graham Huckstep, Headteacher at St Andrews CoE Primary School, said: “We are delighted to have won the table tennis package, which will really help the school continue its focus on providing as many sporting opportunities as possible for our children.
“The children all really excited to have won this competition and we’d like to thank Trenton Nissan for this incredible prize. I know it is going to be really well used in our sports lessons.”
Peter Staveley, Dealer Principal at Trenton Hull, said: “This was a really popular competition and we were blown away by how many schools entered. It made choosing the final winner very difficult because there were so many worthy schools who deserved this great prize.
“St Andrews CoE Primary School are very focused on getting their pupils into sports at an early age and already have a host of clubs which are very popular.
He added: “We’d like to pass on our congratulations to them on winning and thank all the other schools for taking part.”
