TWO Northumberland pensioners have swapped diesel for electric and gained a whole lot more time together after buying his and hers Nissan LEAFs.
John Hope, 83, from Hexham, and Louisa Ferguson, 79, from Tanfield Lea in County Durham, have had plenty of travelling to do since meeting nine years ago, since they live 21 miles apart.
With the rising costs of running a car, getting around was becoming more of a luxury. But now they’re out and about more than ever since buying their 100% electric LEAFs, which have minimal running costs, zero emissions, and a range of up to 155 miles* on a single charge.
Louisa said: “The LEAF is an absolutely fabulous car and perfect for our outings, which we make much more often now. On our budgets as pensioners, running a petrol or diesel car was getting too expensive, but now we don’t have to worry about that.”
Sean Conley, Dealer Principal at Wylam Garage, who sold the couple their cars, said: “John and Louisa are so young at heart, and full of adventure and spirit. They took to driving the Nissan LEAF so quickly, I wish them all the best in their future journeys together.”
