THE Managing Director of a Northumberland Nissan dealership will discover how tough it is to live on the streets next week — but hopes to raise a four-figure sum for charity in the process.
Will Blackshaw, of Blackshaws Garage, on Lionheart Enterprise Park, Alnwick, is taking part in the CEO Sleepout, a nationwide initiative where business leaders sleep under the stars to raise funds for the homeless and poverty-stricken.
By sleeping out on Monday, November 20th, with 25 others from the Northumberland region in The Alnwick Garden, Will hopes to raise more than £1,000 — and is well on his way to achieving his target.
He said: “I’ve run the Great North Run four times for charity, but haven’t done anything like this before. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision and it’s a great way to help and highlight those who at this time of year face even more difficulty.
“I haven’t dared look at the weather forecast, but we’ll all be there no matter how cold or wet it is – just like the people who sleep on the street every night. To be honest, you very rarely think about those who aren’t lucky enough to have a bed and I’m hoping that by doing my bit I’ll be able to raise well over my target.”
