HOPES for a greener and cheaper future are blossoming at a family-run fruit sales business in Cornwall after it added an all-electric Nissan e-NV200 van to its fleet.
Newquay Fruit Sales operates nine vehicles and delivers fresh fruit and vegetables daily across the whole county and into Plymouth.
Director Rachel Craze decided the time was right to go electric after experiencing the environmental and economic benefits of her own all-electric Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 Combi seven-seater.
And when the firm’s aging VW Caddy came up for replacement, the e-NV200 panel van, which offers a class-leading 4.2m3 capacity and an impressive 703kg payload and zero emissions mobility, was the perfect choice.
Covering up to 100 miles a day on routes around Newquay, the van is promoting the business’ green ethos while slashing its £1,200 a week diesel bill.
A delighted Rachel said: “As a long-term Nissan LEAF owner, I’ve known about the benefits of electric vehicles for a while but I didn’t ever feel the range was right for our business.
“But when I took the e-NV200 on a test drive, it quickly became clear that it ticked all boxes – range, payload, price and its size for Cornwall’s narrow lanes.”
She added: “The e-NV200’s the perfect addition to our fleet and as the range and charging infrastructure improves we’ll definitely be looking to do away with all our diesels and replacing them with electric alternatives.”
The Nissan e-NV200 is priced from £17,256.33 for Acenta grade up to £20,018.93 for the top grade Tekna Rapid Plus. On the road prices exclude VAT, but include the government’s Plug In-Van Grant incentive of 20% of the cost of the van, up to a maximum of £8,000.
