THE UK’s largest ever GT-R event has taken place at Silverstone giving journalists and customers a unique experience.
The event at the home of British motorsport was laid on to unveil the brand new 2012 Nissan GT-R, and journalists, current GT-R owners, and prospective buyers were all invited to try out the updated Nissan supercar.
Instructors were on hand to give the guests expert tuition of the GT-R MY12 on the track, and also off of it on a special handling course designed to show off the car’s abilities, which included a slalom course and launch control tests.
Customer guests had been hand-picked by Nissan’s 22 High Performance Centres, and were selected for their loyalty to the iconic Nissan supercar. A range of potential customers were also invited to try-out the car in a safe environment and to get the very best taste of the car’s impressive on-track abilities.
However, without doubt the most special part of the event was the presence of Katzutoshi Mizuno.
‘Mizuno visiting the UK was a big deal in itself, as it was the first time he has visited this country to meet journalists and customers,’ said Andy Connell, category manager 4×4 and sports cars. ‘He’s very much the father of GT-R – he’s the chief design engineer and chief project engineer – and he was here to expose to our guests the GT-R and the MY12 car.’
Overall the event was a success, Connell believed. ‘It was certainly the biggest GT-R event in the UK and possibly one of the biggest in the world. It was a sign of how strong the GT-R’s customer base is in this country. We’ve sold 1850 in the UK, and we have customers who are on their third already – many of whom were here at Silverstone.’
