A used car sales controller has won a prestigious automotive industry accolade after he saved the life of customer who suffered a cardiac arrest.
Cameron Love sprang into action to help customer John Ryder, 82, who was suddenly taken ill whilst visiting Holdcroft Nissan Crewe.
And now Cameron has now been given the Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award at the 2022 Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards.
Using a defibrillator installed at the dealership, Cameron provided emergency treatment and stayed with Mr Ryder until paramedics arrived. Calm under pressure, he acted promptly and skilfully and took control of the whole situation, even marshalling other customers and colleagues during the drama.
Mr Ryder subsequently underwent heart surgery – and when the pair were reunited at the dealership a few weeks later, he said: ‘‘Cameron did an excellent job. I am enormously grateful to him and the bonus was that the garage didn’t charge me for my service!’’
Thousands of automotive retailers, plus MOT testing stations and workshops, enter the Car Dealer Used Car Awards each year – and a rigorous judging and mystery shopping process takes place before the gongs are handed out to the deserving winners at a glittering ceremony in London.
James Baggott, editor-in-chief of Car Dealer Magazine, said: ‘‘Many of the trophies we hand out at the Used Car Awards recognise great customer service and long, successful careers in the automotive industry.
‘‘This one is slightly different as it honours the quick thinking and prompt action of someone who was in the right place at the right time and knew exactly what to do. Well done Cameron – your trophy is very well deserved.’’
Cameron said: ‘‘I am just humbled and happy that Mr Ryder survived. I did what anyone else would do in the circumstances. It came naturally and I was lucky to be supported by other members of the team helping me in the background.’’
