A SPECIAL video by Blue Rubicon has been made marking this year’s RAC Future Car Challenge .
As we have reported in the past, the challenge on November 5 invited participants to drive a 60-mile route from London to Brighton using the least amount of energy possible.
The event, run by the RAC, was open to electric, hybrid, hydrogen and low-emission internal combustion engine cars and light commercial vehicles.
Several all-electric Nissan LEAFs took part, and was judged to be ‘the best overall vehicle on sale at the time of the event’ and was also named the ‘most energy-efficient regular production car’.
Among the celebrities who took part, and who feature in the video, are DJ Mark Goodier and Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn. The pair are well-known EV evangelists and their enthusiasm is infectious as they chat about their love of electric motoring.
Before the event, Llewellyn said: ‘Electric cars are coming of age and the use of solar-generated electricity enables me to get the most from my car.
‘Using solar energy to charge my car is the most efficient way of getting around and I’ve been amazed at how much energy has been generated by them, even in our typically British, cloudy weather.’
And watch out for the young EV evangelist towards the end of the film who seems convinced that electric cars are the future!
