A CROYDON-based recovery company is taking delivery of a fleet of Nissan Primastar panel vans and Navara pick-ups.
Kavanagh Motor Group has purchased 100 Primastar 2900 long-wheelbase, low-roof vans powered by the 115PS turbo diesel engine and eight Navara 2.5 turbo diesel double cab pick-ups.
The company will use the vehicles to service its contracts with major breakdown and recovery companies.
The Nissan fleet will work across London, the Home Counties and Kent and will be in the front line to respond to stranded motorists’ calls for help.
The Primastar becomes the mainstay of the Kavanagh breakdown and recovery fleet and is equipped with diagnostic equipment aimed at getting a car fixed by the roadside. If this isn’t possible, the van carries towing gear to get the vehicle and its driver to a local dealer quickly and efficiently.
The 4×4 Navara double cab Teknas provide valuable support to the Primastar fleet attending breakdowns in more remote areas of the countryside, as well as assisting with wheel changes and jump-starting vehicles with flat batteries.
‘The long wheelbase Primastar offers a good combination of driver comfort, a good load area and its low roof enables us to reach stranded motorists in multi-storey car parks,’ explained Kieron Kavanagh, managing director of the Kavanagh Motor Group.
‘Its towing weight of 2,000kg enables us to recover most cars and we are anticipating fuel economy of around the mid-30s which is acceptable on this multi-use work.’
Working flat-out
Meanwhile the 4×4 Navara double cab pick-ups have already been earning their keep.
‘The recent snowfall meant the Navaras were working flat-out as they were able to access motorists in the most difficult of locations because of their four-wheel-drive capability.
‘Having access to two different types of Nissan vehicles means we can handle virtually any type of breakdown and recovery situation,’ said Kavanagh.
