In a record breaking fifth year on sale, which saw the Millionth British designed, engineered and built unit roll off the production line at Sunderland, the Qashqai has smashed through all previous sales records in 2011.
A strong March performance resulted in the Qashqai range not only achieving its best ever month and quarter since launch – 8,487 and 12,491 units respectively – but its best ever fiscal year in both total and retail markets with 42,644 units to its name – up 2,288 on FY 2010.
All this translates into the Crossover benchmark finding itself firmly nested fourth in C segment – notably overtaking BMW 1 Series in retail – and eight in market, up one position compared with last year.
This progressive growth which continues to defy the typical lifecycle curve, further cements Qashqai not only as the Crossover leader but as the stylish alternative of choice to mainstream C segment hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra.
New tech and advertising
This year saw a continued focus on and investment in Qashqai from both a product and marketing perspective, with the launch of two class-leading, innovative technologies – the ultra-economical yet powerful 1.6dCi engine and 360° Around View Monitor parking system – further enhancing the models strong standard specification and competitive advantage. In support of this, there was also the launch of a brand new heavyweight marketing campaign positioning Qashqai as the Ultimate Urban Car.
Used car credibility
In addition to its new car sales achievements Qashqai is proving a real hit in the used car market, with industry experts CAP and What Car? honouring Qashqai with their coveted Used Car of the Year awards. This is great news for the models residual value which remains strong and comparable with the likes of Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf.
Promoted in conjunction with CARED4, Nissan’s new used car programme, these accolades present us with a unique opportunity to drive both used and new Qashqai sales.
Helen Dickey, Qashqai Product Manager, thanked dealers for their efforts over the course of the last year. ‘It goes without saying that none of this would have been possible without your continued focus and dedication,’ she said. ‘And we look forward to breaking more records together during FY12.’
