NISSAN’S all-electric LEAF has a new set of admirers – the children of St Tudy Primary School, near Bodmin in Cornwall.
Under the guidance of teacher Jo Rowe, the six- to nine-year-old pupils from the school have recently been learning about the environment and how our day-to-day lives have an impact on the Earth.
Part of the learning process involved how cars have a negative impact on the environment with the use of fossil fuels and creation of carbon emissions.
The LEAF was used to demonstrate that manufacturers, and in particular world leaders Nissan, have recognised that there is a need to create a sustainable alternative.
The pupils were able to see the LEAF in action and take a look around the vehicle. A question and answer session was held too.
There were many questions from the children which included:
- Where is the exhaust pipe?
- What is the solar panel on the spoiler for?
- How do you charge it?
- How much does it cost?
- How do you change gear?
- Is it available in purple?
- Where are the batteries?
Matt Cotton, of the warranty and marketing department at West End Motors (Bodmin) Ltd, said: ‘Overall, the children enjoyed the session and one phrase which was used very often was “cool”.
‘Think that sums it up nicely!’
