ONE year since its global unveil, the new Nissan LEAF continues to blaze a trail with a series of awards and record-breaking sales.
Prestigious accolades awarded to the latest Nissan LEAF in the last 12 months include the DiarioMotor.com Electric Pushing Award in Spain, the Motor Electric Award in Italy and the 2018 Drive Power Gold Electric Car Award in the UK.
LEAF has established a strong reputation for advanced technology as well as efficiency, practicality, comfort and driving dynamics. It took the Best Car of the Year trophy in the electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid category by “L’Automobile et L’Entrprise.”
Additionally, the car received Sweden’s 2018 Miljöbästa Bil (Environment Best Car) award in recognition of its appeal for both private and business users as well as its longer range, advanced technologies, attractive price and energy storage solutions.
Designed to make a sustainable lifestyle attainable, the Nissan LEAF has captured the head and heart of Europe’s motorists, with nearly 70% of LEAF owners changing from internal combustion engines to electric mobility for the first time. Across Europe, 43,000 LEAFs were sold in the first eight months of 2018, making it the best-selling EV across the continent.
LEAF has been widely praised for its Intelligent Integration Technology and ease of use. It can be charged from a regular domestic plug and Nissan wall-mounted units, as well as an expansive network of over 5,800 fast charging points throughout Europe. A pioneering charging facility also enables customers to charge their car from the grid and ‘sell’ energy back to energy companies – a concept that scooped the Auto Express Technology Award for innovation in July 2018.
The new LEAF is the icon of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility strategy; featuring driving assistance technologies such as ProPILOT and ProPILOT Park, and the unique e-Pedal which allows drivers to start, accelerate and decelerate to a complete stop simply through the operation of one pedal. Three quarters of new LEAF customers have chosen ProPILOT, while e-Pedal has been highlighted as a favorite feature amongst the 27,000 drivers who have taken delivery of their LEAF already this year. New LEAF technology and innovation transforms the driving experience for its customers.
Gareth Dunsmore, Electric Vehicle Director, Nissan Europe, said: “The new LEAF is an important step towards Nissan’s vision for an intelligent, fully integrated electric vehicle experience.
“The fact the LEAF has resonated so strongly with both motorists and critics against a backdrop of increasing EV adoption and an ever-growing list of competitors shows just how talented it is. Looking ahead, we’re confident that LEAF’s reputation as a leader in the EV market will continue to grow.”
Since launch, the Nissan LEAF has also received major international awards including the “2018 World Green Car” by the World Car Awards and the Best of Innovation award for Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology by the Consumer Technology Association. The latest Nissan LEAF also achieved a five-star Euro NCAP Safety Rating.
Having claimed more than 100 global awards and over 340,000 sales since its introduction in 2010, the Nissan LEAF has established a strong reputation from launch. With an impressive series of awards in the last 12 months, the second-generation Nissan LEAF continues to build on the successes of its predecessor.
