What Car?, Britain’s leading consumer champion and car buying platform, has revealed the shortlist of models in contention for its prestigious 2022 Car of the Year title – and Nissan’s All New Qashqai has made the cut.
The winner will be announced on Thursday January 20th at the annual What Car? Car of the Year Awards. In addition to the overall Car of the Year, the best models on sale in 26 separate categories will be revealed, ranging from small electric car to performance car, and family car to luxury SUV.
To be eligible for a What Car? Award, a model has to have been tested back-to-back with its rivals, both on UK roads and at What Car?’s dedicated test track. In addition, contenders for the overall Car of the Year Award have to have been launched in the previous 12 months. All New Qashqai arrived in Nissan showrooms across the UK last summer.
What Car? editor Steve Huntingford said: “January, February and March are the peak months for car buying in the UK and, as ever, our awards will give consumers the clarity they need.
“Over the last year, we’ve driven hundreds of new cars back to back with their rivals so we can name the very best on sale. And history shows that being named Car of the Year guarantees strong sales for the winning model.”
A Nissan spokesperson said: ‘‘We’re delighted but not surprised that All New Qashqai has made the shortlist for the What Car? Car of the Year Award. It really is a superb vehicle that deserves to do well.’’
