BRITISH athlete Eilish McColgan put Brechin Community Campus pupils through their paces last week — courtesy of Mackie Motors Nissan.
The Montrose Road dealership teamed up with Angus-born Eilish to lead 90 students in a session of seven different indoor sports as part of the Giant Heptathlon programme.
The programme can be used as part of the PE curriculum, but in Brechin Community Campus’s case, students are taking part competitively and are looking to make it to the regional finals early next year.
Eilish said at the session: “I’m delighted to be here at Brechin Community Campus and see the enthusiasm that the kids all have for these classes. They are a great route into sports and fitness and, who knows, maybe there is a youngster here today that could become an athletics star of the future.”
The day was organised by Mackie Motors and the charity ANGUSalive to promote and support the Giant Heptathlon programme.
Kevin Mackie, Managing Director at Mackie Motors, said: “We were delighted to have Eilish, who has been a wonderful ambassador for Mackie Motors, attend this special session.
“Seeing her inspire those children with her knowledge and experience was absolutely brilliant, and we hope the students learned lots from her.”
