A NEWPORT Gwent Nissan retailer is the new driving force behind Welsh cycling superstar Becky James as she gears up for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Newtown Motors on Somerset Road, Cwmbran, has supplied the 22-year-old from Abergavenny with a stylish Nissan Juke as her build-up to Rio intensifies.
The sporty model will be a huge boost to the double world champion as she travels thousands of miles a year carrying a haul of cycling equipment including her bike and helmet.
Collecting the keys to her new car, during a visit back to her home town from her training base in Manchester, a delighted Becky said: “I love the Juke. It’s the perfect car for me and my lifestyle.”
She added: “For an athlete, the knowledge that you have a safe, comfortable and reliable car to use takes a huge weight off your shoulders and just allows you to focus on your training.
“Having the support of Newtown Motors, a business that’s so local to where I call home, is amazing and I’m really grateful to have their backing.”
‘Source of pride’
Glyn Davies, Dealer Principal at Newtown Motors, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support Becky on the road to Rio and I’m sure she will absolutely love her new car.
“I’ve known Becky and her family for years and everyone at the dealership cheered her on as she’s risen to stardom. Now, knowing that we are playing some part in helping her achieve her goals and hopefully pedalling to gold in Rio is a real source of pride for us all.”
