GUILDFORD’S official Nissan retailer is providing added drive to rowing superstar George Nash’s bid to bring home a gold medal from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The Walnut Tree Close dealership has supplied the 24 year-old – a bronze medal winner at London 2012 – with a new Nissan Juke as his training for his second Games intensifies.
The sponsorship comes as a major boost to the former Lanesborough School pupil who currently occupies a bowside seat in the lead boat of GB men’s sweep rowing fours.
He currently travels around 80 miles per day commuting between his home in Hammersmith and the team’s lake in Caversham and having a reliable, comfortable and well equipped car will ensure he always arrives in prime condition.
The Juke also has plenty of room for George’s sizeable kit bag and the large supply of protein shakes and energy bars he takes with him everywhere.
Collecting his new car from the dealership, George said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the car and the sponsorship.
“When I’m driving I have to keep my back in good condition and keep myself healthy and the Juke will certainly help with that.
“It’s also crucial to have absolute confidence in your car as this removes a lot of stress and helps you to remain focused on training and preparation.”
He added: “It’s great to have the backing of the dealership and Nissan and this can only help me reach Rio and perform well there.
“I’m absolutely out to bring home the gold.”
Sue Taylor, Dealer Principal at Bishops Nissan, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support George on the road to Rio and I’m sure he will absolutely love his new car.
“It’s a great source of pride for everyone at the dealership knowing that we are backing such a successful and well known athlete and are playing some part in helping him to even greater sporting success.”
The partnership between the dealership and George was formed through Nissan’s role as the Official Automotive Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. As part of this, Nissan has launched the #UniteAndExcite campaign which will provide fans with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to athletes’ stories and news of how Nissan’s innovative technology could improve performance.
