A BURY dealership has hailed a charity weekend in memory of “Super Josh” a big success after it raised £1,100.
RRG Nissan Bury in Bolton Street staged three days of events in aid of the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.
The showroom organised a host of entertainment for visitors, including a barbecue, face painting, raffle, and charity car wash. It also contributed £50 for every car sold over the three days, with the weekend events raising a total of £796.
Added to this was £304 from the raffle of a signed print of footballing megastars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, bringing the final total collected for the charity to £1,100.
The dealership has a close relationship with the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, having recently supplied it a top-of-the-range Nissan Qashqai to use around the area.
Josh, from Bury, who was voted Mancunian of the Year 2014 by the Manchester Evening News, died last year aged 14 after long-standing medical problems.
He had been diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was just three-and-a-half and was left with complex neurological disabilities following an operation to remove it.
Widely known as “Super Josh”, his bravery and bright outlook on life led his family to set up the charity to help other children with brain tumours.
Mike Prince, Dealer Principal at RRG Nissan Bury, said: “Everyone who visited us over the weekend had a great time. The face-painting proved extremely popular as did the barbecue. It was all very upbeat, replicating Josh’s positive attitude to life.
“People know just how important the charity is and what fantastic work it does for children in the area.”
Josh’s family launched the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity in August 2013, partly to celebrate his 13th birthday but also to help children in a similar position.
Josh’s mum Dawn Fidler said: “It’s fundraising weekends like this that help make a difference to the lives of children with brain tumours and post surgery disabilities.”
