EDINBURGH Nissan dealership Alex F Noble and Son has helped Lasswade Primary School with its bid for a fourth Green Flag Award by lending it an all-electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF for a week.
Deputy head Jill Doyle said: “The Green Flag Award is presented to schools that strive to be increasingly eco friendly. We are always looking for innovative opportunities to promote an eco lifestyle to our pupils and families, and this year decided to approach local Nissan dealership Alex F Noble and Son to ask if we might borrow one of their all-electric LEAF cars for our summer fair.
“However, we were absolutely delighted when they suggested we could have the car for a week. They even got the car branded for us with the Lasswade Primary School and Fairtrade logos as well. On the day of delivery, the car was on display at the fair where it was used for the ‘Guess How Many Balloons in the Car?’ event.
“For the remainder of the week, the LEAF was put to good use in reducing pollution through car sharing, attending meetings, and even for myself and head teacher Julie Fox to attend an evening dance show in which many of the schools’ pupils were involved.
“The car, which we simply plugged in to recharge, was fantastically smooth to drive and very eco friendly, and it was much admired by our staff and families.”
David Noble, dealer principal at Alex F Noble Nissan, said: “We were aware of Lasswade Primary’s excellent eco-credentials through one of our team having a kid there and we were therefore delighted to let the school have the use of a Nissan LEAF for the week. It seems to have given staff and pupils alike a great opportunity to see close up the eco technology of tomorrow in action.”
