A FIFE man who won a Nissan LEAF for a year was so impressed by the 100% electric car he bought it within six months.
Neil Swanson of Rosyth scooped the market-leading model this summer in a competition run jointly by the Energy Savings Trust and Edinburgh dealership Western Nissan.
But with more than half the duration of his prize remaining and 12,000 hassle-free, all-electric and zero emission miles under his belt the utility engineer was totally sold.
He returned to Western Nissan’s showroom on Edinburgh’s Luxury Car Village near the city’s airport, made an offer and struck a deal to keep the LEAF permanently.
Now, even factoring in repayments, the LEAF’s ultra low running costs of around two pence per mile mean Neil is around £50 a month better off than when he used a diesel car.
Collecting his ‘new’ car after a complimentary valet, Neil said: “The LEAF has become my go to car for work, for going out, for going to the shops. It’s fantastic.”
He added: “When I won the car it was always at the back of my mind that I might look to buy it if I liked it, but I never envisaged that happening so soon.”
Cezar Skrzypinski, Innovation Specialist at Western Nissan, said: “We knew Neil would love the LEAF but we never expected to see him back at the dealership so soon to buy it.
“The fact that Neil took to the LEAF in such a big way and is using it for all of his travel and saving money at the same time goes to show just how easy it is to make the switch to electric motoring.”
