THE number of Nissan dealerships equipped to sell the all-electric LEAF has increased by 21.
A total of 53 dealerships are now able to handle sales of the award-winning all-electric hatchback, with each outlet having a specialist Electric Vehicle Relationship Manager in place to deal with enquiries.
The expansion is another stage of Nissan’s drive to reach a total of 180 showrooms selling the LEAF by next spring.
The zero-emission car has won an impressive clutch of awards since the first owner took delivery of his car in California in December 2010.
More than 30,000 are now on the road worldwide, around 1,200 of which belong to drivers in the Britain. UK production of the car begins at Nissan’s Sunderland plant early next year.
Steve McLennan, Nissan GB’s Marketing Director, said: ‘Since LEAF has been on sale it has taken between 65 and 70 per cent of the electric vehicle market. That goes to show how good the product is.
Changing perceptions
‘Customer convenience in terms of where they can access LEAF, drive LEAF and have their LEAF serviced is going to be important as we move towards higher volumes and a more mass-market approach to EV.
‘We’re a big believer – and we see it in the numbers – that when people test-drive a LEAF it really does change the perceptions of what an EV can deliver.’
