A NISSAN dealership in Cardiff will be supporting an event taking place in Caerphilly next month for the third year running to celebrate the men and women who make up the armed forces community.
Wessex Garages on Hadfield Road is one of the principal sponsors for the South Wales Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday, June 25 at Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields on Crescent Road.
Gareth Howells, General Manager at the dealership, explained: “We are incredibly proud to be one of the principle sponsors again for the South Wales Armed Forces Day. This is the first time the popular annual event will be held in Caerphilly and we are sure the town will turn out in their thousands to support the event. We just can’t wait to attend.
“The day is a great chance for us to show our gratitude and support to the men and women who make, and have made, such a huge contribution on behalf of our country. The spectacular military displays and activities will also make the day a fantastic family day out.
“This year we have also sponsored the Silver Stars, the Parachute Display Team of the Royal Logistic Corps. The Silver Stars parachute display team consists of Regular Army and Army Reserve logistics personnel based at units across the UK, Germany and Cyprus.
“Their mission is to carry out parachute displays for both private and public events in order to demonstrate one of the many capabilities and sporting possibilities of the Royal Logistic Corps. The Silver Stars parachute display will take place at 11am on Saturday, June 25.”
The aim of Armed Forces Day South Wales is to raise awareness of the contribution made by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
It also gives people an opportunity to show their support to the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving personnel, to service families, veterans and cadets.
More than 600 service personnel, including representatives from the British Army, Air Force and Royal Navy, as well as cadets and Armed Forces veterans will form a parade at 10.30am on June 25 through the streets of Caerphilly town centre, before a special Drum Head Service at 12noon is held against the backdrop of Caerphilly Castle.
Visitors to the event will then be invited to an afternoon of family fun on Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields on Crescent Road where the area will be taken over by a collection of military stalls and marquees, demonstrations, an events arena and a licensed bar.
Colonel Phil Hubbard, Chairman of the Armed Forces Day South Wales Committee, said: “We are very excited and honoured to be bringing this great day to Caerphilly. Armed Forces Day South Wales has become an important annual event which has grown with Armed Forces’, veterans’ and their families’ involvement and the support and attendance of the general public.
“I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Wessex Garages for its support once again. Without the help of a number of organisations including the Ministry of Defence, Welsh Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council and our sponsors the event would not be possible.”
