Colleagues at a Surrey Nissan dealership enjoyed tasty treats and delicious drinks as part of ‘The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’, held each year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event, at Ancaster Nissan Shepperton, was organised by sales administrator Payal Shah and was a great success, raising £75 for the charity, which is well known across the UK for the help it provides for people living with cancer.
Payal explained that she had organised coffee mornings during her time working for a former employer and had decided to continue at Ancaster Nissan, although it hadn’t been possible to do so during the pandemic.
‘‘I’ve been organising coffee mornings for more than a decade now,’’ she told Nissan Insider. ‘‘My late gran had breast cancer and I used to work in an office where most of my colleagues were women – so you could guarantee the cakes would be bought!’’
After setting up shop in the dealership’s boardroom for her latest fund-raising venture, Payal was certainly not short of visitors. Technicians and sales staff were among those keen to tuck in, even though the event was held on September 30th, a busy month and quarter-end date.
Very grateful
Payal had a range of sweet and savoury snacks on sale and added: ‘‘When I organise my Macmillan coffee morning next year, I’m not going to bother with too many cakes! The samosas I bought were the first thing to go – I had 20 and they had gone within minutes!’’
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was launched by Macmillan Cancer Support in 1990. In 2021, events held across the UK raised more than £11 million and the charity hopes to top that this year.
A Macmillan spokesperson said: ‘‘We are very grateful to Payal and her colleagues for their support for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning this year – and special thanks to Payal for her efforts over the years.
‘‘All donations are received with appreciation and help us continue our vital work supporting families affected by cancer.’’
