Beginning today – International Women’s Day – Nissan is opening the doors of its plants, R&D centres and offices across every continent in the AMIEO region (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania) to inspire the next generation of female talent in the automotive industry.
Embracing this year’s International Women’s Day theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion’, Nissan will empower young minds with a dynamic programme of interactive workshops showcasing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Young women between the ages of 13 and 21 across the region will be immersed in the world of automotive development, design and production in sessions starting this month, hosted by Nissan’s female engineers, designers and subject experts.
Colleagues will share their own personal career stories, answering questions and highlighting STEM opportunities in the industry and challenging stereotypical views of working in the automotive and engineering sectors.
Tapping into the diversity of its people working across five continents and 108 countries, Nissan AMIEO will offer a range of engaging and fun-filled STEM-related activities for young minds to discover, while guided facility tours will give a first-hand look at real-world applications of STEM in the automotive environment.
Nissan’s commitment to empowering future innovators is grounded in its history of skills development and long-standing relationships with academic institutions across the region.
The ongoing open-door programme will build on this deep-rooted legacy of offering bright minds a unique opportunity to advance in the auto industry, and demonstrating that social issues, economic background or gender are no barriers to a career in advanced engineering and manufacturing.
Friederike Kienitz, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Nissan AMIEO, said: “At Nissan, our daily pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion takes centre stage, not just this International Women’s Day, but every day.
“Diversity has the power to unlock the best in all of us, when we are intentional about welcoming perspectives and backgrounds that vary from our own. It’s an exciting opportunity to invite the female workforce of the future into our space and showcase the many amazing opportunities within this incredibly dynamic industry, regardless of age, gender or background.”
Across Nissan’s operations in the region, International Women’s Day is marked with special events including inviting guest speakers to motivate and empower our existing women talent and series of open days, panel discussions and school visits.
