AN INFLUENTIAL new report has named Nissan as the global frontrunner for environmentally sustainable motoring and says the brand is in the ‘fast lane for future growth’.
The report by CDP – the leading climate change research provider – analysed 15 of the world’s largest carmakers and ranked Nissan number one on environment-related metrics, including emissions levels across its range.
It cited Nissan’s continued worldwide market leadership in battery electric vehicles, and in particular the success of the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, as a major factor in its environmental success.
Nissan was also one of only three carmakers found to have taken a lead on advanced vehicles, putting the brand at a competitive advantage in light of developments such as the Paris Agreement to limit emissions and increasing measures to disadvantage diesel vehicles.
According to the report, Nissan would also be well placed to capitalise on stringent vehicle emissions targets in China that could put five million electric vehicles on the road by 2020.
Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of CDP, said: “By performing well in areas such as advanced vehicles and supporting low carbon regulation manufacturers such as Nissan are putting themselves in the fast lane for future growth.”
