MORE than 100 golfers teed off at the Royal Cromer Golf Club in Norfolk for a charity event organised by local Nissan dealer Crayford & Abbs.
The Holes Fore Heroes Charity Golf Day raised more than £5,500 for the Royal Marine Association and Veterans Norfolk and included special guest appearances from former Royal Marine veteran and triple amputee Mark Ormrod and Duncan Slater, the first double amputee veteran to ski to the South Pole.
Prizes were given for the top five teams alongside longest drive and nearest to the pin and the four-strong team of local business KKD came out on top in the competition.
And in the evening, golfers heard more about the work of the Armed Forces from Brigadier Max Marriner, and given an insight into the brave and courageous journey of Mark, who suffered life-changing injuries while serving in Afghanistan back in 2007.
Kevin Abbs, Director at the dealership on Gyspies Lane, Bodham, near Holt, said: “The weather made it perfect golfing conditions and we were delighted so many people came along to play and donated generously to two very worthy causes.
“It was great to have Mark and Paul on the day who each told us about their incredibly inspirational stories. We hope the money raised will help more soldiers who are injured while serving their country.
He added: “I’d like to thank Royal Cromer Golf Course, their professional team of Lee Pattinson and Will Woodrow and the sponsors, too many to name individually but without them we wouldn’t be able to have put this event on.”
The Royal Marines Association provides practical help, support and stability at all stages of a member’s life and has branches across the world.
Veterans Norfolk brings together all Norfolk’s Service Charities and, in conjunction with the County and District Councils, works to look after the welfare and well-being of Norfolk’s Armed Forces and Veterans community.
