NORTHERN Ireland’s swimming sensation Bethany Firth has been presented with a special one-of-a-kind Nissan Micra in recognition of her success at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The County Down athlete collected the unique supermini from her sponsor, Charles Hurst Nissan in Newtownards, earlier today, as part of Nissan’s partnership with the ParalympicsGB team.
It features three striking gold stripes on each wing – one for each gold medal the ParalympicsGB star won at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Bethany, 20, won gold in the S14 100m Backstroke, S14 200m Freestyle and SM14 200m Individual Medley. She also won a silver medal in the SB14 100m breaststroke.
Collecting the car, she said: “I’m blown away to receive the special car – it’s amazing.”
She added: “Charles Hurst is a big supporter of disability sport in Northern Ireland and I’m really touched they’ve gone to the trouble of creating this unique Micra just for me.”
Charles Hurst Newtownards has a long-standing partnership with the nearby Bangor Aurora sports complex, where many of Northern Ireland’s Paralympians train.
Alan Thompson, Managing Director at Charles Hurst Nissan, said: “We’ve been working with Bangor Aurora for a few years now and helped them with fundraising for ParalympicsGB earlier this year.
“We were delighted to be able to continue our support for our Paralympians by presenting Bethany with this car.”
