A LONDON 2012 Paralympic Gold Medallist has helped a north Norfolk Nissan dealer kick off a major fundraiser for the British Paralympic Association.
As part of Nissan’s relationship with the British Paralympic Association, ParalympicsGB star Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE, who won gold in the S14 200m freestyle, visited Crayford and Abbs Nissan in Holt to officially launch its fundraising campaign which aims to raise thousands to help send ParalympicsGB’s athletes to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
While at the Gypsies Lane dealership, she took time to meet local schoolchildren and aspiring athletes and to chat to them about her preparations for Rio 2016.
She also met some of the many dealer staff, customers and friends who, as part of the fundraiser, will run, swim and cycle 5,876 miles – the distance between north Norfolk and Rio – by April 30th.
The proceeds will be combined with money raised by Nissan and its dealers nationwide and will help to supercharge ParalympicsGB’s bid for sporting glory in Rio. Nissan is the Official Automotive Partner of ParalympicsGB.
Kevin Abbs, Dealer Principal at Crayford and Abbs Nissan, said: “We had a fantastic turnout for the event which just goes to show what an incredible inspiration Jessica-Jane and her fellow Paralympians are to so many.
“It was particularly pleasing to see so many young people with dreams of following in Jessica-Jane’s footsteps visiting the showroom to chat to her.”
Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE said: “It’s always great to meet young people with a passion for swimming and Paralympic sport in general.
“It was also very interesting to hear about Crayford and Abbs’ fundraising campaign. The money it raises can have a real impact on the success of ParalympicsGB at the Rio Games.”
