BRITISH wheelchair tennis player and twice-Paralympic gold medallist Peter Norfolk has taken delivery of a top-of-the-range Nissan X-Trail through the Motability scheme for disabled motorists.
Now living in St Agnes, Peter – known around the world as ‘The Quadfather’ – picked up his new crossover from Mick Wheeler, Sales Executive at Town and Country Nissan in Marazanvose, near Truro, last week.
Having dominated the sport for 10 years, winning 15 Grand Slam titles, Peter now runs a specialist mobility company, Equipment for the Physically Challenged, which sells high-performance and sports wheelchairs.
His new X-Trail, which serves up a cavernous interior and seven seats, will prove the perfect fit for business use as he travels hundreds of miles across the country every week.
Peter, who was made an MBE in 2005 and awarded the OBE in 2009, said: “I needed a comfortable car as I have a wife, two children and a wheelchair and I also need space as I carry a lot of wheelchairs for my business. After talking with Mick and looking at the Nissan range, the X-Trail looked a good bet.”
The Motability scheme is a charity that provides mobility solutions for disabled people and their families in the UK.
It allows people with disabilities to use the government-funded mobility allowance to lease a new car, which makes it more affordable.
Peter said: “I’m really happy with the X-Trail. It’s really light and airy for when I’m travelling around and has seven seats, which is a bonus.
“The Motability scheme is extremely practical and affordable so it was the perfect choice for us. Town and Country Nissan is right on our doorstep for servicing needs as well, so I am very happy with the whole package.”
Mick said: “We’re delighted that Peter loves his new X-Trail. It looks great, is comfortable to drive and comes packed with technology so will suit his business and leisure needs perfectly.”
