STAFF at a Nissan car dealership in Waterlooville helped a family raise over £1200 for charity by holding a fundraising week.
WKB Nissan in Elettra Avenue organised a cake sale and a raffle to raise money for CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young – during the charity’s awareness week.
Inspired by their customers Linda and Bryan Stiller who sadly lost their son –David – to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, the dealership decorated their waiting area with balloons, stickers and banners.
In addition to selling cakes baked by Mr & Mrs Stiller and the staff, local companies donated 18 different prizes to give away as part of the raffle.
Assistant Aftersales Manager at WKB Nissan, Vicki Spencer, said: “We met Linda and Bryan last year after their daughter-in-law bought a used vehicle from us and was so pleased with the service that she recommended that they come to us to buy their new car.
“After talking about the loss of their son to this terrible condition we wanted to help raise awareness by displaying information for our customers to see and by raising money throughout the week.
“I’m over the moon that we managed to raise so much money and it was great to see so many customers and members of staff getting involved.”
Linda and Bryan Stiller attended at the end of the week along with their grandchildren Jamie and Emily – David’s children – to draw the raffle winners and were bowled over by the support offered by the dealership.
Bryan Stiller said: “We really are blown away by what the staff at WKB Nissan have done this week.
“The charity were a great help to us and this money will go towards their work in screening for this condition to help diagnose it early, and if it stops just one other family having to go through what we have it’s been worthwhile.”
Rescue Skills – who provide First Aid and health and safety courses locally – were also on site on the day of the raffle to offer WKB’s customers some basic first aid information and advice on how to deal with someone that might be suffering with cardiac arrest.
All funds raised by WKB Waterlooville were added to Mr and Mrs Stiller’s own bake sale during the week and together they managed to raise over £1200.
Cardiac Risk in the Young – CRY – was formed in 1995 and provides support for young people that have been diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by young sudden cardiac death.
