Following his victory at last night’s Rio 2016 Games, Paralympic 200m T42 World Champion Richard Whitehead MBE will now be presented with a stunning, all-gold 100% electric Nissan LEAF. The Nissan ambassador will be gifted with the keys to a Nissan LEAF completely wrapped in brilliant bright gold upon his return to the UK.
All Team GB and ParalympicsGB Nissan ambassador athletes returning from Rio with a gold medal will be presented with an all gold, all electric Nissan LEAF, making it one of the most limited edition Nissan models ever. Team GB’s record breaking golden boy Max Whitlock and rower George Nash are two of the Nissan athletes to be awarded their all-gold LEAF following their success at the Olympics Games.
Prior to his voyage out to Rio, Nissan – the official automotive sponsor and proud partner of the British Paralympic Association (BPA) – recruited Richard to help highlight the benefits of electric driving.
The new ‘Living with LEAF’ film stars the Paralympic and World Champion, alongside his strength and conditioning coach Dave Jackson, as they drive a 100% electric Nissan LEAF to a training session. Throughout the three minute film Richard explains the finer points of electric driving to his sceptical coach Dave, talking about how the Nissan LEAF produces zero emissions whilst driving, can be charged via his home charging unit and therefore eliminates the need to ever visit a fuel station again!
Throughout the film the pair also enjoy well wishes and banter from other passers-by, wishing Richard luck ahead of his departure to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Chris Marsh, Marketing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, added: “Nissan is incredibly proud of its work with the British Paralympic Association, and in the build up to Rio 2016 we have been dedicated to bring the British public closer to the team, in an exciting and playful way. Richard’s fun and engaging personality really helped explain the benefits of electric driving in a simple way when filming ‘Living with LEAF’ and we’re all so proud to have him associated with Nissan. He is the perfect person to receive one of our limited edition gold LEAFs to mark his fantastic achievement in Rio”.
The ‘Living with LEAF’ film was created and produced by Red Bee, with Fuse Sport + Entertainment running Nissan’s Team GB and ParalympicsGB partnership and the media strategy, planning and buying run by Manning Gottlieb OMD.
