AS PROUD sponsors of Sir Chris Hoy’s ‘Road to Le Mans’ Nissan is delighted to note the broadcast of ‘Sir Chris Hoy: 200mph to Le Mans’ this Sunday 9th October at 9PM on BBC2.
Following his retirement from professional cycling after the London 2012 Olympic Games, Nissan ambassador Sir Chris Hoy has spent the last four years attempting to fulfil his childhood dream – to compete in the most famous endurance motor race on the planet, Le Mans 24hrs.
Shot over four years, the documentary joins Chris as he tries to master a completely new sport, ultimately ending with him finally reaching his goal of racing in Le Mans in June 2016.
Sir Chris Hoy’s realisation of his boyhood ambition was made possible through Nissan’s accelerated driver development programme, allowing him to go from cyclist to racing driver within the four years between the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Hoy was put through his paces in the GT Academy Driver Development Programme, training alongside other Nissan athletes including Jann Mardenborough.
Through his training with Nissan, Sir Chris made his racing debut in the British GT Championship in 2014 before moving into the European Le Mans Series LMP3 class in 2015. His final goal was achieved by racing an LMP2 Nissan in the Le Mans 24 Hours in June 2016.
On his experience from two wheels to four, Hoy commented – “The 24 Hours of Le Mans is something I’ve been working towards for three years, and to take to the grid alongside so many legendary drivers earlier this year was an exhilarating experience.
It’s been a great journey and is something that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Nissan.”
The BBC film gives a unique, insiders view of one of the fastest, most exciting and glamorous sports in the world, whilst being with Chris every step of the way in the build up to Le Mans 24hrs.
In addition to his racing career with Nissan, Hoy was also a proud ambassador of Nissan’s ‘Road to Rio’ campaign and earlier this year also mastered the art of driving a Nissan Juke on two wheels with stunt legend Terry Grant, after just two days of training.
