GREAT design delivered through innovation – Nissan is showcasing its bold approach in spectacular style at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Showing the strength and depth of its highly successful range, Nissan is exhibiting an array of vehicles that offer an exciting glimpse of what the future holds for the brand.
Much of what you read below you’ll have seen on Nissan Insider before but we thought you might appreciate a quick round-up of what’s on show across the Channel.
TeRRA concept car
Taking centre stage and making its global debut at Paris is the rugged TeRRA concept car. The dramatically-designed four-seater takes the philosophy of zero-emission mobility and extends it into an exciting new domain. Powered by hydrogen fuel-cell, TeRRA offers four-wheel-drive capability and proves that zero-emission vehicles aren’t just for cities. Nissan is already the market leader in the zero-emission field, with the all-electric LEAF continuing to lead the way thanks to its innovative design and engineering.
Through the use of in-wheel motor technology, TeRRA is free of the packaging constraints that affect conventional SUVs. With no central transmission tunnel, the seating gives all four passengers a broad and unique view out of the vehicle. In addition, TeRRA introduces bold new surfacing materials and removable, portable technology for the driver display and infotainment systems.
Juke NISMO
An exciting new era in Nissan performance motoring starts at the Paris Motor Show with the official launch of the NISMO road car programme. Designed and developed by Nissan’s NISMO division in Japan, the range of affordable yet highly advanced performance cars is spearheaded by the new Juke NISMO.
Powered by a modified version of the acclaimed 1.6-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine that drives the DIG-T model, the Juke NISMO features a bespoke aerodynamics package and a revised chassis design to deliver an even more engaging driving experience.
Nissan DeltaWing
The fans’ favourite of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours is on French soil again – this time in Paris. Accompanied by its creator, Ben Bowlby, the ground-breaking Nissan DeltaWing is bringing design and engineering innovation to a new audience at the Paris Motor Show, where it features as one of the stars of the Nissan stand.
The team behind the radical racer declared last week that it had ‘unfinished business’… after being unceremoniously shoved out of the famous endurance race in June, the Nissan DeltaWing will return to finish what it started at the event’s little brother, Petit Le Mans.
The pioneering, dart-shaped Nissan DeltaWing, which captured the hearts of 240,000 Le Mans 24 Hour fans three months ago, will race again at the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) finale at Road Atlanta, USA, on October 17-20.
Juke with Ministry of Sound
Celebrating its ongoing partnership with the London-based clubbing and electronic dance music authority Ministry of Sound, the Juke with Ministry of Sound is a limited-edition model that features a number of premium design enhancements and special features.
Available with any engine and transmission in the current range, the Juke with Ministry of Sound is finished in either Metallic Black or Solid White, and comes with a bespoke design package and a Ministry of Sound Music Pack that comprises an Apple iPod touch complete with Scratch Shield case, Ministry of Sound headphones and a VIP voucher for the Ministry of Sound music store.
Making an equally dramatic impact on the Nissan stand in Paris is the Juke Box – a specially commissioned Juke fitted with what has been dubbed the ‘ultimate mobile sound system’. Built by the same audio team that created the famous ‘Box room’ at the Ministry of Sound nightclub in London, it has become the main attraction at Nissan’s high-profile Juke Box Sessions held throughout Europe.
Qashqai 360
Groundbreaking design and advanced technology are just two of the attributes which have made the Qashqai the sector-defining sales hit it is. The new Qashqai 360 demonstrates Nissan’s commitment to bringing premium features to the mass crossover market.
Available across Qashqai and Qashqai+2 ranges, the 360 can be specified with all engine and drivetrain combinations – including the new 1.6-litre dCi with CO2 emissions from 119g/km.
Qashqai 360 includes a number of premium design features and is fitted with Nissan’s innovative Around View Monitor (AVM) as standard.
PIVO 3
Making its European debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, PIVO 3 showcases a range of new and exciting technologies that provide an exciting vision of what the future holds for urban mobility.
The innovative zero-emission concept builds on the strengths of its predecessors, and adds more real-world features, such as Automated Valet Parking (AVP) and Robotic Agent Interface (RAI) – a system that integrates the vehicle’s key technologies into one interface.
PIVO 3 also has the facility to feed stored power back to the local electricity grid. This clever technology, when employed on a larger scale with other EVs, has the potential to balance electric power demand and supply.
Micra ELLE
Combining stylish design with intelligent technology and spirited attitude, the Micra ELLE has been developed with a well-suited partner: world-famous fashion magazine, ELLE.
It showcases many of Nissan’s innovations, including Intelligent Key for keyless entry, and offers a luxurious feel thanks to its panoramic glass roof and chrome details.
Micra ELLE also introduces two new colours to the Micra range and is available with two engine options: a 1.2-litre normally aspirated three-cylinder engine, and a sophisticated 1.2-litre supercharged DIG-S engine that develops 98PS.
NV200 London Taxi and NV200 New York City Taxi
Making their first appearance at a European motor show, the new NV200 London taxi and NV200 New York City taxis confirm Nissan’s growing presence in the private hire sector.
Launched in August, the NV200 London taxi has been completely re-engineered to meet the strict requirements of London’s licensing authorities.
Proving the strength and adaptability of the NV200 platform, the London taxi variant features a large five-seat passenger area, variable seating layout and twin sliding doors for easy access. In addition, the NV200 London taxi also features a bespoke steering set-up that allows the vehicle to meet the required turning circle maximum of 7.6 metres.
Revised 370Z Coupe and Roadster
With updated exterior and interior styling, new colour options and wheel design, the 2013-specification 370Z Coupe and Roadster makes its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Confirming its reputation as one of the most exciting and best value sports in the sector, the new 370Z features a host of detail improvements, including a new front bumper incorporating LED daytime running lights.
