THE FIRST double amputee to reach the South Pole is to be the guest speaker at a north Norfolk Nissan dealer’s charity dinner, raising money for the British Paralympic Association as part of Nissan’s commitment to supercharge the ParalympicsGB team.
RAF veteran Duncan Slater, who raced to the South Pole as part of a team of 12 injured servicemen that also included Prince Harry, will be the star attraction at the Crayford and Abbs Nissan charity dinner, which takes place on the 30th April at The Links Hotel, West Runton.
Prior to his guest appearance, Duncan called into the Gypsies Lane dealership to show the team his brand new prosthetic legs that he has had made in readiness for his next challenge. In April he will travel to the Sahara Desert to complete six marathons in six days to raise money for the charity Walking With the Wounded.
The charity dinner is part of the ongoing campaign by Crayford and Abbs Nissan to raise funds to help send ParalympicsGB’s athletes to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Staff, customers and friends have also contributed to the fundraiser by pledging to run, swim and cycle 5,876 miles – the distance between north Norfolk and Rio – by April 30th.
Proceeds from Crayford and Abbs Nissan’s activity will be combined with money raised by Nissan and its dealers nationwide and will help to supercharge ParalympicsGB’s bid for sporting glory in Rio. Nissan is the Official Automotive Partner of ParalympicsGB.
