MANCHESTER’S official Nissan retailer is providing Team GB track cyclist Jess Varnish with added drive as she gears up for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
West Way Nissan in Chancellor Lane, Ardwick, has supplied the 23-year-old member of the world-record-holding European sprint team with a stylish Nissan Juke as her build-up to Rio intensifies.
The Juke 1.5 dCi Tekna will be a huge boost to her preparations for the Rio 2016 Games as Cheadle-based Jess travels thousands of miles a year in the course of her training and has to carry a haul of cycling equipment including her bike and helmet.
Collecting the keys to her new car – at the same time as Olympic track cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy collected his new Nissan GT-R in his role as Nissan brand ambassador – a delighted Jess beamed: “I absolutely love the Juke. It’s the perfect car for me – really sporty and really comfortable to drive.”
She added: “As an athlete you need to make your life as easy as possible outside of training and so having a reliable and comfortable car is really beneficial.
“I really believe that having a car you can count on takes the pressure off and allows you to perform to the best of your ability.
“Having a business like West Way and a brand like Nissan providing this level of support for athletes is a real boost.”
Sara Harris, Marketing Director at West Way Nissan, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support Jess on the road to Rio and I’m sure she will absolutely love her new car.
“Jess has the potential to be one of the stars of the Rio Games and knowing that we are playing some part in helping her achieve her goals is a real source of pride for everyone at the dealership.”
The partnership between the dealership and Jess was formed through Nissan’s role as the Official Automotive Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. As part of this, Nissan has launched the #UniteAndExcite campaign which will provide fans with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to athletes’ stories and news of how Nissan’s innovative technology could improve performance.
