1,000 miles in a LEAF for £5

September 20, 2011
Home Nissan GB News

ROBERT Llewellyn has proved that you can drive 1,000 miles in a Nissan LEAF for a measly £5.

Using solar panels to charge up his LEAF, the actor, presenter and electric car lover has shown that EV motoring can be both environmentally friendly and economically viable too – Llewellyn covered 1,000 miles for £5.38.

As reported by The Charging Point, three months ago Llewellyn installed solar panels from British Gas at his home. He discovered that 85 per cent of the power generated could run his Nissan LEAF.

The typical cost of solar panel installation is £11,500, but drivers like Llewellyn travelling an average of 12,000 a year can save more than £1,736 on petrol prices.

British Gas also offers clever schemes including any excess energy generated from solar panels which is not used can be fed back into the National Grid – saving an extra £1,055 per year, for example, or a £2,791 per year saving in petrol costs. Moreover the solar panels could pay for themselves within four years.
