MANY of the UK’s leading motoring journalists were given a unique insight into the benefits of the new Nissan LEAF on July 1, the day new changes to the London Congestion Charge hit many of its rivals.
While other vehicles – including hybrids – have been stopped in their tracks by a tightening of the C Charge emissions rules and the scrapping of the Greener Vehicle Discount (GVD), the British-built LEAF, the world’s best-selling all electric car, can still enjoy the freedom of the city with a charge of £10 per year rather than £10 per day.
And journalists were given a first-hand experience of what the ever-growing army of switched-on Londoners and commuters can expect when they put the new model through its paces in and around the O2 arena – home of the exciting Nissan LEAF Innovation Station.
The invited journalists – including some of the most influential in Britain – had the chance to see beneath the skin of the model by driving the innovative ‘half LEAF’ around the arena.
They were then able to take the new model for a Congestion Charge-free spin around the capital.
And, to illustrate the LEAF’s position as the number one choice for the capital’s drivers, they exited the complex past an eye-catching skip filled with life-size replicas of three of the cars affected by the new Congestion Charge rules.
