THE nation’s newest Nissan dealership has been officially opened in Sheffield, raising several hundred pounds for Paralympic sport in the process as part of Nissan’s partnership with the British Paralympic Association.
Bristol Street Motors on Attercliffe Road near the Wicker Arches was officially declared open by local athlete Madeleine Thompson – the youngest member of ParalympicsGB’s wheelchair basketball team – during an action-packed family fun weekend.
Hundreds of customers and members of the public flocked to the dealership over the weekend to meet Madeleine, who trains with Sheffield Steelers, and enjoy everything from a state-of-the-art Formula One simulator to smoothie makers powered by exercise bikes.
And the dealership donated £20 for every test drive taken to the British Paralympic Association – the charity responsible for selecting, preparing, funding and managing ParalympicsGB for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Speaking after opening the dealership, Madeleine, who hopes to make the squad for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, said: “I’m delighted to be here to open the dealership and am particularly pleased to see a business like this getting behind the Paralympic movement.
“This kind of support means everything to athletes like myself and really helps to keep London’s Paralympic legacy moving.”
Iain Lawrie, Sales Manager at Bristol Street Motors Nissan in Sheffield, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have attracted such an impressive turnout to our official opening and were delighted to see everybody have such a fabulous time.
“As a company we firmly believe in becoming active members of the communities in which we operate and so opening with a real family-centred event full of community spirit seemed like the natural choice.”
He added: “We were thrilled a local athlete of Madeleine’s stature was able to join us and hopefully the money raised will help our disabled sportsmen and women fulfil their sporting ambitions.”
Madeleine was chosen to open the dealership as Nissan is the Official Automotive Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the road to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
As part of this, Nissan has launched the #UniteAndExcite campaign which will provide fans with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to athletes’ stories and news of how Nissan’s innovative technology could improve performance.
