A NISSAN dealer in West Sussex is celebrating the success of its apprenticeship programme as a recruit aims to be one of the youngest fully-qualified Master Technicians in the country.
Karl Andrews was taken on by Yeomans Nissan Worthing in Brougham Road when he was just 16.
He passed his apprenticeship with flying colours and is now hoping to take his Master Technician qualification – the industry’s most senior grade – next year, making him potentially one of the youngest in the country to reach the top of his field.
Karl, 21, said: “I have always loved cars. When I was a kid I was helping my dad change the oil and maintain the family car – I just loved getting my hands dirty and fixing things.
“Every day is different here – it never gets boring. I’m aiming to take the Master Technician’s qualification next year and I’m confident I will pass it.”
Karl has had a helping hand from several senior colleagues, many of whom have had decades’ worth of experience, such as Nick Wells who has worked at Yeomans Nissan Worthing for 30 years.
Aftersales Manager Paul McDermott said: “Karl has been a real success story for us. He came here as an Apprentice Technician and really impressed us, not just with his ability to learn, but also his get-up-and-go personality.
“He really wants to succeed in his career at Yeomans and is determined to climb the ladder as quickly as possible. Karl is a great example to young people of what they can achieve if they work hard and give it their all.”
