NISSAN dealers registered more than 6,900 cars in November, the latest figures from the SMMT reveal.
A total of 6,911 Nissans were registered in the month – a result that helped Britain’s favourite SUV, the Qashqai, rise to seventh place in the monthly best-sellers chart.
Dealers registered 3,274 Qashqais in November, allowing the SUV to climb above the BMW 3 Series, the Mini and the Mercedes C-Class. Qashqai was only 32 cars behind the Volkswagen Polo; year-to-date figures for the car currently total 36,826.
It brings Nissan’s sales figures to a total of 90,480 – more than 7,000 units more than in the same period in 2010.
However, the market as a whole dipped in November. Registrations were down 4.2 per cent coming to a total of 134,027 cars – but still some 5,000 more than the SMMT predicted.
‘While the November new car market saw a 4.2 per cent dip, the fuel efficiency of new models broke all records with the average new car achieving 52.5mpg,’ said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive.
‘Despite the Chancellor delaying the 3p rise in fuel duty, our cost of fuel is still among the highest in Europe, so customers are sure to welcome the 29.3 per cent improvement in new car fuel efficiency over the last 10 years, a demonstration of industry’s commitment to delivering good value to motorists.’
