Following a successful summer launch, Nissan’s All-New Qashqai has returned to the top of the sales charts in September as the UK’s best-selling crossover, according to figures just released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The third generation of Nissan’s trail-blazer recorded a healthy 4,108 registrations, representing almost half of the 10,586 new Nissans sold during the month.

What’s more, Qashqai was the fifth best-selling model in the UK overall, and helped Nissan record a 4.3 per cent market share. More welcome news for Nissan came courtesy of its all-electric LEAF, of which 1,066 examples were registered.

Performing strongly

September was the best month ever for new battery electric vehicle uptake, according to the SMMT, with almost one in 10 (9.5 per cent) cars sold in the UK being a battery electric vehicle.

A total of 6,156 Nissan LEAFs have been registered in the calendar year to date, representing a 10 per cent increase on the figure for the same time in 2020 and a clear sign that more and more consumers are switching on to the benefits of zero-tailpipe-emission motoring.

Other cars in the Nissan range also performed strongly during September, with registrations of Juke currently running at 14 per cent up on last year (15,405 registrations YTD) and Micra up four per cent (5,429 registrations YTD).

Nic Verneuil

Nic Verneuil, sales director at Nissan Motor GB, said: “I couldn’t be more delighted with the instant impact All New Qashqai has had on our sales performance, as well as the rapidly growing consumer appeal of electric vehicles like our LEAF.

“Even better than this though, is the fantastic feedback we’re getting from our customers on their experience of our brand.

“In September, our dealer network achieved a 97 per cent customer satisfaction rate which, despite the challenges currently faced by our industry, highlights our relentless focus on the customer experience and the continued positive impact of our dealer partners on Nissan customers and prospects in the UK.”
