ONE of Lancashire’s leading motor dealers is swapping cars for bikes as part of a tie-up with the UK’s number one BMX team.
The Chorley Group, which has Nissan dealerships across the north-west, has agreed to sponsor the Preston-based Doublecross BMX race team.
The team competes in the British National series and won the hotly-contested Elite team trophy in 2014 with one of the biggest winning margins in the event’s history.
Alex Cullen, Sales Manager at the Chorley Group’s Chorley dealership, said: “We are proud to be associated with the Doublecross BMX Team, who are the number one race team in the UK.
“BMX racing is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and the Doublecross Team has some of the best young riders around.
“The Chorley Group is passionate about supporting local sports and community groups and the Doublecross Team is a shining example of what can be achieved when you bring a group of people together with a shared passion.”
Nicola Todd, of the Doublecross Racing Team, added: “We’d like to say a big thank-you to the Chorley Group for their financial support.
“The team was set up by a group of people passionate about riding bikes, with the same goals and ambitions – to create the perfect environment for rider development and enjoyment.
“We are a self-funded team, reliant on financial support from our sponsors, so this sponsorship funding will enable us to improve our ‘at race’ facilities, training opportunities, team race kit and equipment.”
Since its introduction as an Olympic sport in Beijing in 2008, BMX racing has seen an explosion in popularity.
The Chorley Group has Nissan dealerships in Preston, Chorley, Wigan and Blackpool and was recently voted Lancashire’s number one family business at the Red Rose Awards, as reported by Insider.
