AN important trial of the Nissan LEAF will end today for one county council.
Since Tuesday, workers from Bradford Council have been trialing a LEAF and have been carrying out routine jobs in the all-electric hatchback in and around the city.
Community carers who look after the elderly and workers who deliver the mail between the Council offices have been using the LEAF – and if the trial is successful, electric vehicles could join the Council vehicle fleet.
Switching to electric vehicles could cut the Council’s high emissions levels of more than 7.3 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Speaking to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, James Brass, the Council’s environment officer said: ‘The electric vehicle is fantastic because it has so many other environmental positives in terms of noise and air quality.
‘There are no emissions coming from the tailpipe. It takes eight to nine hours to charge on a domestic supply and will go for 100 miles.’
In addition to the trial, council workers have been given tips on how to drive more environmentally friendly within the city.
