NISSAN is to build a limited run of the ground-breaking Juke-R for customers.
Since the global launch of the 545bhp supercar in Dubai in January this year, Nissan has been approached by a number of interested buyers which has prompted the company to open the order books.
The Juke R is a hybrid of the already-exciting Juke and the manufacturer’s supercar GT-R. It is rumoured that the buyers will be parting with a substantial six-figure sum to get behind the wheel.
Just like the right- and left-hand-drive protoypes, it is understood the production cars will be produced by British-based engineering firm RML.
The decision to put the Juke-R into production followed several too-good-to-ignore offers which emerged after the car’s debut as the pace car at the Dubai 24 Hours.
It beat a handful of established supercars in a race around a specially-built track at the Dubai International Marina Club. That resulted in the first three orders, two of which have come from a high-profile and well-respected member of Dubai society.
In addition to these cars, Nissan will build a strictly limited number of Juke-Rs upon request and will be taking orders in the coming four weeks, before production starts in earnest.
Featuring the engine and running gear of the GT-R, the 3.8-litre, 160mph Juke-R created waves throughout the automotive industry as a global first and easily the fastest crossover vehicle ever built.
While the original fully road legal Juke-R was based on the MY10 GT-R, the new cars will feature the drivetrain and chassis of the MY12 GT-R and, with the build starting imminently, the first three cars will be delivered to their new owner in late summer.
The creation of Juke-R was one of the most talked-about motoring stories of last year. It was developed by experts at Nissan’s Technical Centre Europe (NTC-E) and legendary race car builders RML.
It is faster to 60mph than the Ferrari California and with a top speed of 160mph, and supercar handling thanks to the legendary GT-R’s suspension, it’s a compact crossover with the performance to scare most pure-bred sports cars.
The Juke-R retains the compact dimensions of the standard Juke, the only increase being in width which is required to accommodate the 20-inch RAYS forged alloy wheels and flared wheel arches.
