Nissan sponsorship for canoeist Patrick

WLMG Shepperton Nissan is pleased to announce its sponsorship of 2011 Paracanoeist of the Year and current World Champion, Patrick Mahoney.

Mahoney is a member of Great Britain’s Paracanoe squad and winner of the V1 LTA category at the 2011 ICF World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

The LTA category is for paddlers with a disability who have functional use of their legs, trunk and arms for paddling, and who can apply force to the foot board or seat to propel the boat.

Mahoney’s training regime was interrupted earlier this year when his car, a customised Nissan Qashqai, was stolen leaving him without any form of transport.

After hearing of the unfortunate news, WLMG Nissan Shepperton offered to support him by contributing to his advance rental of a brand new Qashqai.

The sponsorship deal is to assist Patrick in meeting transportation needs for training and upcoming competitions so he can be at his best to defend his current world title.

Mahoney said: ‘I was distraught when I found out my car had been stolen as it was my only transport method to training and competitions.

‘It was heart-warming when I learned that WLMG Shepperton wanted to sponsor me and it gave me a massive boost knowing that nothing will hinder my training schedule.’

Quest to win gold

Stan Kriel, Sales Manager at WLMG Nissan in Shepperton, said: ‘Patrick Mahoney is a long-standing customer of ours and when we heard what had happened to his Qashqai we were keen to help.

‘We are delighted to be in a position to support him in his quest to win gold for Great Britain and defend his World Championship title later this year.’

The Nissan Qashqai, one of the UK’s top 10 best-selling cars, has enjoyed great success since its launch and is one of the best performing models at the dealership.

It is easily the highest volume car produced in the UK and one of Nissan’s most successful products to date.
