KEIGHLEY residents and athletics fans turned out in force on Friday night for an entertaining evening with star sprinter and Olympic gold medal winner Darren Campbell MBE.
The popular athlete who won gold for Great Britain in the 4x100m relay at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games was at Colin Appleyard Nissan in Coney Lane as part of his role as a Nissan brand ambassador.
During the lively event he took to the stage to share his inspiring life story and recount the highlights of his glittering athletics career. He also took time to answer questions from the floor and pose for photographs with fans.
At one point he was joined on stage by 14 year-old local heptathlete Rhea Southcott – a member of the England athletics squad – and shared with her his tips for success.
The event was held to raise funds for the British Paralympic Association and an auction, raffle and collection raised almost £300.
Robin Appleyard, Managing Director at Colin Appleyard Nissan, said: “It was a brilliant event and we were delighted to see so many local people turn up to enjoy the night and to help us raise funds for a fantastic cause.
“Darren was a fantastic speaker and you could tell just how much everyone enjoyed themselves by the long line of people waiting to have their photographs taken with him at the end of the night.”
