AN EDINBURGH Nissan dealer is the new driving force behind the city’s star runner Lynsey Sharp as she gears up for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Western Nissan on Corstorphine Road has supplied the 23-year-old European 800m champion – part of the Team GB squad at London 2012 – with a stylish Nissan Juke as the build-up to her second Olympics intensifies.
The sponsorship comes as a major boost to Lynsey’s sporting ambitions, as it follows several months without a car when she was forced to travel by taxi to her intensive daily training sessions and competitions.
The sporty Juke offers ample space for Lynsey’s hefty haul of kit and removes any uncertainty over transport arrangements, allowing her to focus 100 per cent on her Olympic preparations.
Collecting the keys to her new car, a delighted Lynsey said: “This is just amazing. It’s the perfect car for me and I’m so happy with it.”
She added: “It’s been really difficult being without a car for so long, and having the Juke will just make everything so much easier. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have a car that’s totally reliable and comfortable and you just don’t have to think about.
“I’m so grateful to have the backing of Nissan and Western Nissan.”
